Social rights. Candidacies can be presented until 26 May.
Once again, the City Council is set to recognise social journalism and communication in Barcelona with these annual awards. Candidacies for the Montserrat Roig awards, which recognise quality information on social matters in Barcelona, can be put forward from 28 April to 26 May 2025.
The new edition of the Montserrat Roig awards keeps the same four categories from previous editions: social journalism, social communication, the promotion of journalistic research and the special award by the jury. The monetary prize for this year’s awards is 45,000 euros, across the various categories and the jury prize, which is worth 5,000 euros.
Requisites for candidates
Projects presented in the categories for social journalism and communication have to have been published, broadcast or disseminated between 16 December 2023 and 31 December 2024.
As for journalistic research projects, these have a deadline of one year after the prize is awarded. This category is for research projects preferably carried out within the sphere of covering basic needs, support in early childhood, citizen participation, care of others and the effects of the digital divide.
Projects must be linked to the city of Barcelona in terms of the issue addressed, the target audience and the sphere of influence. You can find full information on the website for the Montserrat Roig awards, along with the registration process.
Made up of sixteen professionals from journalism, communication and social action, with recognised professional trajectories, the jury will recognise original research, plurality of sources, thoroughness and awareness. The winning projects will be announced in a public event in the second half of 2025.
