Sustainable Food. Parc de la Ciutadella will host the fifth edition of Terra i Gust on 26 and 28 September.
The gathering of organisations, producers, restaurants and citizen promotes healthy local food that is respectful of the planet as part of the La Mercè annual festival.
Form 26 to 28 September, Parc de la Ciutadella will once again host Terra i Gust, the sustainable food fair that is part of the La Mercè festivities. This fifth edition has become a must-see both for professionals promoting cuisine that is committed to the land and the environment and for people who have resolved to follow this transformative consumption model.
Participants can enjoy high-quality cuisine and an activity programme for all audiences, with workshops, cooking demonstrations and shows, in one of the city’s largest parks.
Organised by Barcelona City Council, Terra i Gust is framed within the Barcelona Healthy and Sustainable Food Strategy for 2030, an agreement signed by all the local agents that are part of the food chain.
Traditional and innovative cuisine with sustainable products
Visitors can stroll around the different stands and sample around thirty different dishes crafted by a selection of restaurants from the city and metropolitan area which focus on organic, local, seasonal products. In this year’s edition, the culinary offerings include everything from traditional Catalan cuisine, reinvented, to innovative dishes with local and international inspiration.
So, there will be options for all tastes, ranging from vegan dishes to ecological meat and international recipes made with local ingredients. Examples include DOP Delta de l’Ebre rice with organic vegetables, fideus a la cassola pasta casserole with meat and fish, dumplings made with sustainably-raised Ral d’Avinyó pork and free-range chicken brioche with kimchi and Korean-style mayonnaise.
Activities to rethink what we eat
In addition to food, Terra i Gust offers a wide range of activities for all ages with the goal of raising awareness of food habits and their social and environmental impact. Workshops, talks, children’s shows and cooking demonstrations will fill all three days of the festival.
Children can participate in activities like cooperative games to lower food waste, a workshop to learn about local herbs and another one where they can create a vertical garden. For adults, talks, debates and workshops have been organised on food sovereignty, local fish consumption and food waste and zero waste.
So, Terra i Gust continues to shed light on the ties between what we eat and the future of the planet. With five editions under its belt, it has become much more than a place to eat: it is a community meeting point where we can rethink our food model and together build a healthier and more committed city.
