Urbanism and infrastructure. The new section will be transformed into a single-level street with priority access for pedestrians and cyclists.

This July, the Municipal Institute of Urban Planning (IMU) began redevelopment works on Carrer de Pere IV, between Bac de Roda and Selva de Mar, with the aim of turning it into a new traffic-calmed area in the Sant Martí district. The stretch will be redesigned as a single-level street where pedestrians and cyclists take priority, with plenty of greenery and new trees to provide shade and spots to pause and relax.

The project will also install new street furniture and lighting, redesign the pedestrian crossings and put in new traffic lights and road signage at junctions along the street. Another key improvement will be to the drainage system, which will be upgraded and replaced, and a sustainable urban drainage system (SUDS) will be added to make use of groundwater.

Meanwhile, urban development work has also begun on the section of Carrer de Selva de Mar between Carrer del Perú and Carrer de Pere IV, and on the section of Carrer del Marroc between Carrer de la Selva de Mar and Carrer de Fluvià, with the aim of expanding pedestrian space and improving accessibility. The pavements will be resurfaced, more greenery will be added and Carrer del Marroc will be opened to help improve connectivity throughout the area.

Overall, the works on Carrer de Pere IV, Carrer de Selva de Mar and Carrer del Marroc are expected to take around 18 months to complete, with an estimated budget of 8.4 million euros.

As part of the improvements in the Sant Martí district, work has also begun on redeveloping Carrer de Zamora, between Almogàvers and Sancho de Ávila,. The street will just have one central lane for vehicles, while pedestrians and cyclists will be given priority. A new seating area is also planned at the junction with Carrer de Sancho de Ávila. Street lighting and paving will be upgraded, and new greenery will be planted along the entire length of the street. The works are expected to take around eight months, with an estimated budget of 1.2 million euros.
