This year’s poster for La Mercè 2025 is a real object that has been created with wood, “with metal, with magic and imagination,” as the author says—director, filmmaker, and set designer Lluís Danés. As the author himself explains:

“When they asked me to create the poster for La Mercè, I understood that they weren’t just asking me for an image. They were commissioning an emotion. That’s why this Mercè poster is not virtual. It is physical. It’s a real cart, built with wood, metal, and magic. A piece of scenography that brings the festival to the heart of the city.

Craftspeople, carpenters, welders, musicians, designers, makeup artists, costume designers, singers, dancers, circus artists, photographers, choreographers, stage managers, assistants… they all worked on it. Each person gave the best of themselves to make this dream come true.

This commission is also a statement of intent that shows the desire to make culture an immersive and participative experience. The cart is inspired by the traveling theaters of past times, but it looks toward the future. It is modern, radical, emotional. Behind it lies a simple but powerful idea: to value the object, that which can be touched.
