Popular festivals. These festivities highlight the recovery of the four Gegants del Pi with a programme of various events, including exhibitions, talks, and parades.
The Festes Quinquennals dels Gegants del Pi [Five-Year Festival of the Giants of Pi] are celebrations held in years ending in 0 and 5 in Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, commemorating the recovery of the four Gegants del Pi on 12 June 1960 after being kept in storage for nearly a century.
The festival will begin on Saturday 7 June at 5 pm with the opening of the exhibition of centenary and historic Gegants at the Palau de la Virreina. The inauguration will include speeches, the introduction of the guests, and afterwards, a concert–recital with jazz rhythms by the Taller de Músics del Raval.
One of the new features of the 2025 Quinquennals will be the Marxa dels Gegants del Pi, a nighttime parade held on Friday, 13 June, created by the youngest Geganters [giant carriers] to engage a younger audience who are often less inclined to follow the Gegants.
